How do I arrange to see a psychologist?

To arrange an appointment with one of the psychologists all you need to do is call the Psychology Practice. Our usual practice is that we require a referral prior to making the first appointment. This is so the referral is able to be triaged by our psychology team to assess which clinical psychologist would be most appropriate to work with your child. Once you have a referral we recommend you email or send it to Psychology 806 and then one of the Psychologists or reception staff will contact you to make an appointment.

How will I know you have received my referral?

You may either ring and book an appointment or if your referral has been received either the psychologist or reception staff will contact you to book an initial consultation.

What should I bring to the first appointment?

Please bring your Medicare care and the patient information and consent sheet if it has been sent to you by Psychology 806 beforehand.

If you have any previous assessments or reports that may be informative for the Psychologist please also bring those.

Will I get a reminder about my appointment?

You will receive a text message (SMS) prior to your appointment confirming the time and date.

Please ensure we have the correct mobile number for this purpose.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you are unable to attend your booked appointment, please let us know as early as possible so that we can offer this time to another client on the wait-list.

If you don’t notify us of a cancellation more than 24 hours before an appointment, a cancellation fee will be charged.

This fee is required to be paid prior to any future appointments.

It remains the client or family’s responsibility to book another appointment if you have cancelled or missed an appointment.

If you miss consecutive appointments without prior notice, further appointments may not be offered or cancelled.

What if I have a telephone query?

Our reception staff will do their best to answer telephone questions.

The reception is not always staffed at quiet times however messages will be able to be left.

For how long will my referral be valid?

There is no set expiry date for Psychology referrals however there is a limit on the number of sessions.

If accessing Medicare support under the Better Access to mental Health Care Plan, clients will need to be reviewed following a maximum of 6 sessions. Further sessions may be supported with most clients eligible for up to 10 Medicare supported consultations each Calendar year.

Mental Health Care Plans are best reviewed each 12 months.

Eating Disorder Plans expire after 12 months from the date of referral.
